What Is An IP?
An IP address is the address used to route traffic across a network. If you want the simple version, it is the number that helps the internet find the right destination.
Devices on your home network often use private addresses like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x. Those are real and useful inside your local network, but they are not usually the public address the rest of the internet sees.
Routers, NAT, carrier infrastructure, and VPNs can all blur what your "real" outward-facing address is. This site exists to answer the practical question: "what address am I actually showing to the outside world right now?"
